Interesting Dental Trivia

Fact #1: Kids Smile More than Adults

Men, women, and children – who smiles the most? Kids of both genders tend to flash their grins more freely. This is probably at least partially due to the fact that children tend to have less worries and a more carefree lifestyle. Children smile approximately 400 times every day, while their moms average about 62 smiles in a 24 hours period. Men seem to have the weight of the world on their shoulders, only tending to smile about eight times each day.

Fact #2: Teeth are as Unique as Snowflakes

When comparing your teeth to the smiles of others, an individual’s pearly whites are as unique as fingerprints. Even identical twins with the exact same genetic makeup have variances in teeth. Not only do smiles hold countless variations, but you actually have a tongue print, similar to fingerprints.

Fact #3: Toothbrush Caps Breed Bacteria

If you have an electric toothbrush which includes a plastic cap to fit snugly over the bristles, you probably think this is a cleanliness measure. Unfortunately, you’ve been duped. Without ample time for drying before you place the cap back on the bristles, moisture becomes trapped in your toothbrush head. This means a faster growth of bacteria. If you do forgo the cap, however, make sure to keep your toothbrush at least six feet from your toilet, as germs from the commode can travel that far when you flush.
